What this quote is trying to say is that your reflection and the way people see you is the most important thing you can achieve in life. For example, all your actions reflect on the type of name people are going to see you as. If i borrow a dollar from a friend and tell him that i'm going to pay him back but i never do, i'm giving myself a bad name. On the other hand i borrow a dollar and i pay him back right the next day i am giving myself a good name because lets say a week later you need to borrow a dollar again because you need to take the bus that person is then going to say no because you never payed him/her back.On the other hand the person is going to be willing to let you borrow the dollar because they know that they don't have to worry about you not paying him back.Not only that but other people wouldnt mine letting you borrow it.
